What the class focused on today was
-TED.com (I've already known)
-iTunes University
I never heard iTunes University before.
I think it's amazing!!!!!
I don't have even a ipod...

last question
-is there need for group work?

I think this class should focus on theme writing class.
So individual working is more pragmatic.

prezi for presentation

prezi is Interner-based-on software

the design is cute
we can see a presentation as like a whole map (macro)
and see also in detail (micro)

I want to try to use it in sometime.
but I think it is difficult for me to create a presentation in prezi
because it has too much functions ><

thanks for two teachers!

final reflection

Hi, everyone.
I'm sorry for being absent from the last class and I could not say thank you for everyone.

Here are my final reflections.

1. I realized my volume of voice in English is lower than I had expected.
What I thought the most useful technique is how to make slides effectively.
I also learned how others have a presentation effectively as audience.

2. First, I want to improve my volume of voice, a little more louder.
Then, I will pay attention to emphasis, pause and speed of my speech.
Next, I want to use gestures.

3. Before taking this class, I hated presentations.
But now, I have more confident than before and I want to practice presentation in English more.
Presentation is no longer fear for me, probably.

By the way, I can make a presentation in Japanese with much more confident and enjoy it than before. I think this is because I got some confidence with speaking in public.

Thank you everyone!

Pres.3 Group Presentation: Women's Aid

Goal
Be Persuasive.
Convince audience to understand the need to support Women's Aid in UK.
Raise awareness against domestic violence by giving interesting and shocking fact.
Make effective slides. (font and image)

Reflection
We researched and made slides each part individually.
But at the same time, we used google services effectively so that we advised each other.
Through the rehearsal in the class, we improved our presentation much better, especially time management and slides.
Personally, I practiced my part many times, so I felt I could speak more fluently and with confident than the previous presentation.
I could make my slide effectively.
On the other hand, I couldn't use gestures at all.
After all, I have improved volume of voice, so as a next step, I want to use my voice effectively (speed, pause and emphasis) and also use gestures.

Pres.2 Pecha Kucha

This is my Pecha Kucha; https://w3.icu.ac.jp/people/payne/kanas.html

Reflection
I think Pecha Kucha is friendly to audience because audience can know what a speaker really want them to know and also audience can concentrate on the presentation since they know a presentation lasts only 6 or 7 minutes.
After I had PK presentation, I realized that it's difficult to summarize what I tell audience in only 20 slides and 20 seconds.
When I was having a presentation, I felt that what I was talking was reaching to nobody.
I thought it was because what I was talking was hard to understand since it was about a religion and what is really unfamiliar to audience and because how I was talking and my English may be really bad.
However, after the reflection in class, I realized PK is somewhat a one-way argument and that is also one of the reasons why I felt above.
Therefore, I like PK as audience but I do not like PK as a presenter.

In the second presentation, I especially paid attention to the volume of my voice because I really surprised that it was hard to hear my voice in the first presentation.
Since I paid attention to it, the volume was improved at this time.
I was settled down better than the first time.
On the other hand, I stumbled many times even when I spoke correct words in the right way.
I stopped saying a word or a sentence and restated again many times.
This was because I did not have confidence in my English and did not rehearsal the presentation enough. Also, I tended to read my note rather than see audience.
So, in the next time, I have to pay attention to voice, posture and preparation.

Pres. No.1 Self-Analysis

Self-Analysis

1. Voice (Volume, rate, pausing, emphasis etc)
Reflection:
The volume was much lower than I had expected while I did not murmur. It is because I do not have confidence of speaking English since I tend to speak loudly when I speak Japanese. Due to the voice in low, the emphasis of the voice did not work at all.
Goals:
Speak in appropriate voice ( more loudly) whether I can talk fluently or not. Then, pay attention to rate, pausing and emphasis.

2. Body Language (Eye contact, gestures, posture etc)
Reflection:
eye-contact- I tried to face to whole audience. I know I tend to look right upward when I am nervous, so I tried to avoid that, but I  couldn’t.
gesture- I cared about the gestures but I could not use it effectively. I moved only my right hand sometimes.
posture- straight, not slouching and I stayed.
Goals:
Get used to speaking public through AEP class and try to be myself, facing to everyone. Watch and imitate presenters’ gestures by TED and the instructers.

3. Visuals (Images or text on slides, timing etc)
Reflection:
I tried to avoid typical ICU students’ slides (many fonts and charts).
Goals:
Keep making slides simple and memorable.

4. Preparation Process (Topic selection, notes, visuals creation, rehearsals
etc)
Reflection:
topic selection- I think topic was interesting to everyone. And it was easy to have a presentation for me because topic was successfully narrowed.
notes- I prepared speaking note, but everyone did not seem to see any notes. Though I had many rehearsals, I needed to see speaking notes because I was very nervous and I forgot what to say.
Goals:
Use speaking notes effectively. Note should be contained appropriate amount of information. Not just having rehearsals many times, but imaging real presentation.

5. Any other reflections or goals?
Have an expressive face. When I am nervous, I tend to just smile. Like intonation in voice, I would like to change my facial expression such as serious and smile.

Presentation No.1 "My Passion"
